Direct from Hachioji to Nikko! The Spacia Hachioji Nikko Runs for Two Days Only This Weekend
For residents of Hachioji, getting to Nikko has always meant dealing with transfers.

Direct from Hachioji to Nikko in About 2 Hours and 20 Minutes
The limited express train "Spacia Hachioji Nikko" will run for two days only — Saturday, June 13 and Sunday, June 14, 2026.
It departs from JR Hachioji Station at 7:40 AM and arrives at Tobu Nikko Station at 10:01 AM.
This is a direct limited express connecting Tama to Nikko in approximately 2 hours and 20 minutes, with no transfers required.
On the return journey, the train departs Tobu Nikko Station at 3:57 PM and arrives at JR Hachioji Station at 6:32 PM.
That gives you about 5 hours and 50 minutes to spend in Nikko.
It's a schedule that allows for a fully enjoyable day trip.
The train stops at JR Hachioji, Tachikawa, Shin-Akitsu, Kita-Asaka, and Omiya before entering the Tobu line and continuing to Tochigi, Shin-Kanuma, Shimo-Imaichi, and Tobu Nikko.
Boarding from Tachikawa is also possible.
Reserved Seating Throughout, Plus a Luxurious Green Private Compartment
The train uses the Tobu 100 Series Spacia.
Car 6 features a "Green Private Compartment" for four passengers, available for 6,300 yen per room.
Families and groups of friends can enjoy a private space as they head to Nikko.
All regular cars have reserved seating.
The reserved seat limited express surcharge from Hachioji, Tachikawa, or Shin-Akitsu to Tobu Nikko is 2,530 yen.
A separate base fare ticket is required.
This train has also been featured on Mono News (乗りものニュース), and it's been a hot topic among rail enthusiasts and residents of the Tama area.
A Rare Route Running Direct Through JR and Tobu Lines
What makes this train unique is its route.
Starting from Hachioji on the JR Chuo Line, it travels via the Musashino Line to the Utsunomiya Line (Omiya), then connects directly to the Tobu Line.
This is made possible through the "JR–Tobu Mutual Through Service" arrangement.
A Tobu limited express running on the Musashino Line is a rare sight you won't see on an ordinary day.
This train draws attention from rail fans.
How to Buy Tickets and What to Know
Base fare tickets and limited express tickets can be purchased at JR East station windows, Midori no Madoguchi ticket offices, or through the online reservation service "Eki-net."
Using the Green Private Compartment requires an additional compartment fee.
As a two-day-only special train, seats may be limited.
Early booking is recommended.
For the Tobu Line section (north of Omiya, from Tochigi to Tobu Nikko), the base fare can be purchased together with the JR fare.
If it seems complicated, just tell the Midori no Madoguchi staff "from Hachioji to Tobu Nikko" and they can handle everything at once.
Head to Nikko from Hachioji This Weekend
The Spacia Hachioji Nikko is one of the rare chances for Tama area residents to reach Nikko without any transfers.
Whether you want to relax in a private compartment or simply hop on from Tachikawa or Hachioji for a casual trip to Nikko, the choice is yours.
Leave Hachioji at 7:40 on a weekend morning, and by 10 you'll be standing in the nature of Nikko.
Consider this for your day trip or overnight getaway option this weekend.
