Nine Days When the Entire City of Chofu Becomes a Stage

"Savor the Music" — that is the theme of this year's Chofu International Music Festival.
Envisioning the city of Chofu as "one big kitchen," the festival serves up a rich variety of performances as a "menu of music," running for nine days from June 20 to 28.
The main venues are Chofu City Green Hall and Chofu City Cultural Hall Tazukuri, but Sengawa Theater and the main hall of Jindaiji Temple are also featured, making it nine days during which the entire city of Chofu is wrapped in music.

A Stellar Lineup and Highlights to Watch

Opening the festival on Sunday, June 21, is a gala concert by "Masato Suzuki × Panda Wind Orchestra" (Chofu City Green Hall Main Hall, doors open at 14:00).
The pairing of Executive Producer Masato Suzuki and a wind orchestra of young elite musicians is a fitting combination to herald the opening.
On Wednesday, June 24, a string quartet performance is scheduled at the main hall of Jindaiji Temple.
The sound of strings resonating through the stillness of the temple grounds promises to be an experience unlike any other.

A Rush of Performances Building Toward the Second Half

On Friday, June 26, the opera "ZEN," composed by Atsuhiko Gondai, will be staged.
It is a rare opportunity to experience the work of a contemporary composer who has been drawing attention both at home and abroad, right here in Chofu.
On Saturday, June 27, a spontaneous collaboration project titled "Savor the Music," featuring Remi Hirano — beloved by cooking enthusiasts — is also planned.
Also on the 27th, the Festival Orchestra conducted by supervising director Masaaki Suzuki will perform Mahler's Symphony No. 1 "Titan."
The following day, Sunday the 28th, Bach Collegium Japan will bring the festival to a close with Bach's "Hunt Cantata."

In addition to ticketed performances, open stages and music cafes will be held at various locations throughout the city.
These are free to attend and enjoy, making them a great entry point for those who want to first "just soak up the atmosphere."

Chofu Station on the Keio Line Is the Most Convenient Access

Chofu City Green Hall is approximately a 5-minute walk from Chofu Station on the Keio Line.
Chofu City Cultural Hall Tazukuri is also about a 4-minute walk from the Hiroba Exit of Chofu Station, and with an underground passageway available, access is relatively easy even on rainy days.
