Tower Records Machida to Close on July 6 — 18 Years of Music Come to an End

The store opened in May 2008 on the 6th floor of Machida Modi as Tower Records' 10th location in Tokyo.
For approximately 18 years, it stood as a landmark gathering place for music lovers, deeply rooted in the Machida community.
In April 2016, the store relocated to the 7th floor of the same building and underwent a major renovation, adding an event space and expanding the new releases area.
Spanning roughly 190 tsubo of floor space with a stock of over 60,000 titles, it was one of the largest music stores in the Tama area.

"Thank You" — Farewells Spread Across X

When news of the closure broke, many users took to X to share their feelings of farewell.
Posts poured in with memories: "How many CDs did I buy here back in high school?" and "I used to kill so much time at the listening station."

Local artists also responded.
Sasaki Ryo, a member of Kinmokusei and manager of the live restaurant Mahoro-za MACHIDA in Machida, reportedly shared his own heartfelt farewell on X.

Singer Tomita Shiori also posted a farewell message, making it clear just how much this store meant to artists and fans alike.

Closing Coupons Available Through July 6

Through the final day of business on July 6, the store is running a thank-you campaign.
Customers who spend ¥500 or more (tax included) will receive a ¥500-off coupon valid at the online shop and all Tower Records locations nationwide (excluding CAFE/BEER stores).
Coupon distribution began Tuesday, June 2, 2026.
