Nausicaa Origins at Kichijoji! Conan Exhibition Until June 28

The “Future Boy Conan Exhibition 2026” in Kichijoji, Musashino City runs from May 29 through June 28. It presents “Future Boy Conan,” Hayao Miyazaki’s first fully directed TV series, as the origin of his later style: a post-nuclear setting, a gifted boy hero, a strong heroine, and themes like the clash between technology and nature, dynamic action, and memorable characters that anticipate his later films.
Inside, visitors can see Miyazaki’s original character design drawings, storyboard copies, and production documents. A video corner replays key scenes with explanatory panels, making it approachable even if you haven’t seen the series. Limited-edition goods—clear files, postcards, acrylic keychains, and more—are on sale, with popular items likely to sell out early, so visiting sooner is recommended.
Kichijoji is accessible via the JR Chuo/Sobu Line and the Keio Inokashira Line, about 15 minutes from Shinjuku and convenient from Tama-area cities such as Mitaka, Koganei, and Tachikawa. Timed-entry reservations may be required, so visitors should check the official website and social media for the latest ticketing and entry details; weekday mornings tend to be less crowded.
The exhibition pairs naturally with a broader Kichijoji outing: the Sunroad shopping arcade, Harmonica Alley’s narrow lanes, and nearby Inokashira Park, which offers walking paths, boat rides, and relaxed cafés. The area’s used bookstores, record shops, and distinctive cafés are particularly attractive for anime and film enthusiasts.
Because the exhibition closes on Sunday, June 28, visitors are encouraged to confirm entry procedures in advance and plan a trip to Kichijoji soon to take advantage of this limited-time opportunity.
