About Kitayama Park's Iris Garden
Kitayama Park's iris garden spans approximately 6,300 square meters and features around 100,000 Japanese iris plants across 600 varieties. Designated one of Tokyo's "New 100 Views," the garden carries on an iris-growing tradition dating back to the Edo period. The full palette of purple, white, pink, and yellow blooms is especially striking after a rain shower, and the garden is a favorite among photographers.
Schedule and Evening Illumination
The festival runs daily from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. through June 14. A special evening illumination is held on Saturday, June 13, with the garden open until 9 p.m. The iris garden under lights takes on a mystical character that draws large crowds every year. The quieter nighttime atmosphere is a completely different experience from the daytime bustle.
Food Stalls and Nearby Attractions
Food stalls line the garden throughout the festival, offering local food and drinks. Higashimurayama City is also known as the home of the famous folk song "Higashimurayama Ondo." The Higashimurayama Furusato History Museum is within walking distance, making a half-day combination visit easy. A bit further along, Lake Tama (Murayama Reservoir) offers a scenic natural escape.

The nearest stations are Higashimurayama Station on the Seibu Shinjuku Line (about 7 minutes on foot) and Kumekawa Station on the Seibu Ikebukuro/Kokubunji Line (about 10 minutes). Parking is limited, so public transport is recommended. Admission is free and the festival is held rain or shine.
