Premium Shopping Vouchers Return: ¥10,000 Buys ¥13,000 Worth of Shopping
On June 1, 2026 (Reiwa 8), Fussa City and the Fussa City Chamber of Commerce opened applications for "Premium Shopping Vouchers" for residents of the city.
Each booklet costs ¥10,000 and is worth ¥13,000 in purchasing power—a premium rate of 30%.
With energy and food prices continuing to rise, the program is held every year with the aim of easing some of the burden on household budgets, giving residents a discount on shopping at local stores.
What's in the Booklet: How the 30% Premium Works
Each booklet contains 26 vouchers worth ¥500 each (a total value of ¥13,000).
The breakdown is 13 Type A vouchers and 13 Type B vouchers.
Type A vouchers are accepted at all registered stores, including supermarkets and large retailers; Type B vouchers are for use only at small and medium local businesses, excluding large chain stores.
If you want to support local independent shops and restaurants, actively using Type B vouchers contributes even more to revitalizing the local economy.
Each person can apply for up to 3 booklets (a maximum value of ¥39,000), but if applications exceed supply, a lottery will be held.
The total print run is 30,000 booklets.
Two Ways to Apply — Deadline is June 15
The application period runs from Monday, June 1 (Reiwa 8) through Monday, June 15 (postmark valid on the deadline date for postcards).
There are two ways to apply:
Applying by Postcard
A flyer with a tear-off postcard is being distributed to all households along with the June 1 issue of the Fussa City Newsletter.
Fill in the required information, attach an ¥85 stamp, and mail it in.
If you don't have the dedicated postcard, you may also use a standard official postcard.
Extra flyers with the dedicated postcard will be distributed at public facilities throughout the city from early June onward.
Applying Online
Fill in the required information using the application form on the official Fussa City website and submit.
Applications are accepted from smartphones as well, saving you a trip to the post office.
Purchase in July at One of Six Post Offices in the City
Completing your application does not mean you receive the vouchers right away.
After applying, "purchase notification" postcards will be mailed out on a rolling basis from around late June.
Bring that notification to whichever of the six city post offices you designated on your application, between Wednesday, July 1 and Thursday, July 16, and purchase your booklets with cash.
Payment is cash only (cashless payment is not accepted), so don't forget to bring ¥10,000 in cash on the day you go to purchase.
Vouchers Are Valid from July 17 Through Year-End
Purchased vouchers can be used from Friday, July 17 through Thursday, December 31 (Reiwa 8).
That's a full six months—covering summer shopping and mid-year gift season, the autumn outings season, and year-end shopping.
The list of participating stores is updated on the official Fussa City website on an ongoing basis.
It's a good idea to check in advance whether the store you want to use accepts the vouchers.
A Track Record of Popularity as an Anti-Inflation Measure
Fussa City has run a similar premium shopping voucher program every year using the national government's High Inflation Emergency Support Local Allocation Grant.
In past rounds, applications have concentrated quickly after the sales launch, and a lottery has been held.
Demand is expected to be high again this year, so make sure not to miss the application deadline of June 15.

The premium vouchers can only be used at registered stores within the city, but a wide variety of everyday-life establishments participate—supermarkets, restaurants, daily-goods shops, and more.
